FAQs

  • Is there a gift shop at the museum?

Yes! The Shop at Blithewold offers an array of luxury gifts and keepsakes for you to remember your visit. The boutique gift shop features a unique, elegant collection of handmade jewelry, home decor items, ladies' accessories, Blithewold-inspired keepsakes, and tabletop adornments. Many of the shop's items are produced by local artisans, small companies of Rhode Island, and Blithewold volunteers.
  • What type of gardens can we see?

The 33-acre estate comes to life in its mix of historic and contemporary gardens, plantings, lawns, pathways and stone structures, all mostly intact from their inception from the late 1800s. Explore the 10-acre Great Lawn, Enclosed Garden, Orchard, and Cutting and Vegetable Gardens, which were laid out in the late 1890s. You can also tour the beautiful Rose, Water, Rock, Vegateable and Idea gardens, as well as the Lord and Burnham Greenhouses.  The gardens incorporate formal and naturalistic landscape elements, from poetic to practical, reflecting the Van Wickle family's love of nature and horticulture.
